Covid-19 rehab is now a service available at Ashbourne Physiotherapy Clinic.

Physiotherapy provides a vital role, on discharge from hospital, for people recovering from Covid-19. Many people recovering from Covid-19 can be left with symptoms such as shortness of breath, decreased exercise tolerance and weakness, decreased lung function and fatigue. Physiotherapy can aid in all of these areas helping to improve your symptoms and also giving you coping mechanisms to manage your symptoms as you return to normal activities. All of our physiotherapists have been trained and are up-to-date with the most recent evidence on how to treat Covid-19 patients. We are also adhering to all guidelines provided by our professional bodies.

The European Respiratory Society and the WHO have conducted a study reporting that quality of life of people with Covid-19 drastically improved following an eight-week pulmonary rehab-based exercise programme. While some patients will receive this in hospital, there is a large majority who won’t and we can provide this in an outpatient setting.

All appointments can be done over teleconference from the comfort of your own home and exercise and breathlessness will be monitored throughout making it as safe as possible for the patient.

Each person will be assessed individually and a personal programme will be developed to suit that person’s needs, as not everyone has the same symptoms or complaints following Covid-19.

It is vitally important that you get started as soon as possible with your rehab, even if you may not feel up to it.  According to research, the best results are attained in the first two months after discharge from hospital, so it is important you get started as soon as possible.

This service is being provided from the 28 April 2020. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
