Feet & Orthotics

Foot pain can be very debilitating and can seriously affect your quality of life.

It can stop you going about your daily activities, sports and even just going for a short walk.  We at Ashbourne Physiotherapy Clinic work closely with orthopaedic foot specialists, G.P.s and chiropodists and receive many referrals for those with complex, chronic foot and ankle pain conditions.

We will take a history of your problem and do a full assessment of your foot biomechanics, gait (walking), and will test your muscle strength and flexibility.  We will look at your shoes so do bring in what you usually wear and any previous orthotics that you may still have.  It is usually not necessary to have X-rays or M.R.I. scans except to rule out a fracture but if you have had them already, do bring the results with you.

Common foot conditions that we see are:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Metatarsal pain
  • Ankle sprains
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Tibialis posterior and peroneal tendon pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Stiff big toe joints
  • Flat feet
  • Following foot or ankle surgery
  • Knee pain caused by poor foot biomechanics

Treatment usually consists of a graduated strengthening and stretching programme, gait training, advice re footwear and sometimes shockwave therapy or orthotics.  We stock a large range of off-the-shelf orthotics and also prescribe custom orthotics.

We will always try to keep you active and exercising throughout your treatment for your foot and ankle pain, though we may advise some modifications.

Make an appointment to see Linda and she will help to get you active again.
